after doing timidity -iA -Os & and changing to timidity port 0 in Tuxguitar 1.1 I am getting sound [using the tuxguitar sequencer - the only MIDI sequencer avaliable from the drop down menu in the setting tabs]. The only issue is that there is some serious lag going on in every instrument ie, it can't cope with complex rhythms with out skipping or slowing down through them or whatever.

I was wondering if there was a fix for this.. as it doesn't appear to be a cpu usage issue.

Try to download qsynth, and use it with pulseaudio as audio driver. instead of timidity (it don't supports pulseaudio, that is default sound server in ubuntu )
