lock up when I try to open a file

If I click the tool bar button to open a file, the file dialog box comes up, but none of the buttons will respond. I can click on the files in the dialog, but I can't click open, cancel, etc. I am running Windows XP, service pack 3. The only way I can close TuxGuitar is to kill it in Task Manager. Has anyone seen this before?
