Hello everyone!
I'm writing this to see if you can help me for a little. I'm a debian user (lenny/sid).
Let me explain my two problems.
First, if i try to install&run tuxguitar from my repositories i get this error message:

I searched around but did not find a reason, does any of you know what can be causing the problem?
Second, after i was unable to run tuxguitar from the repos i downloaded a binary version (tuxguitar-1.0-jet). It can be executed, but i have some issues with it.
First: i have no sound using the java synt. If i run tuxguitar with "aoss" script the java sound works fine.
Second: i have timidity installed, running and configured. I also have tuxguitar configured to use it (i've specified timidity client 128 port 0 in tools->sound) but i get no sound. The daemon is up and timidity is able to play .mid files without a problem. Snd_seq is also loaded and the /etc/default/timidity file has ALSAEQ=TRUE and ALSAEQPARAMS = "-Os".
Do you know why the version in the repository does not work?
Do you know why i have no timidity sound in the jet version?

This problem was never reported before, so i don't have enougth idea about what can it be.
But, if you say that the official version (that have SWT-3.4 included) works, i think there is a problem on libswt,
any broken dependency.
i have these packages installed:
libswt-gtk-3.4-java
libswt-gtk-3.4-jni
libswt-cairo-gtk-3.4-jni
libswt-mozilla-gtk-3.4-jni
Try see if you have them installer.

You say that you can play midi files.
but how do you do that ?
timidity as stand alone is one thing, and as a server is another.
i mean,
~$ timidity MyFile.mid
May work, but it isn't working as alsa port.
You should exec this to test if it's really working as server:
~$ aplaymidi --port 128:0 MyFile.mid
>> Snd_seq is also loaded
Yes, it can't be a kernel module problem.. otherwise you wouldn't be able to play sounds with "java synth" too.
Do you have pulse audio, or anything like ?
Try manually run timidity:
~$ timidity -iA -Os
it should open new ports ( maybe 129:* )
try those ports with tuxguitar (or aplaymidi command )
It it works, there is something wrong with the init script.
(or if you have pulseaudio some kind of conflict, known on some distributions )
There is something that i don't have clear..
you pasted me that you have:
ALSAEQ=TRUE
ALSAEQPARAMS = "-Os".
But, on my timidity installation, the var names start with "TIM_"
TIM_ALSASEQ=true
TIM_ALSASEQPARAMS="-Os"
Did you copy/paste from the configuration file ? or just a manual text ?
if not, open /etc/init.d/timidity and make sure that it is using your var names instead TIM_*
otherwise, it may never work.

About first problem, did you maybe run tuxguitar as "root" ?
I readed that SWT displays this error when it can't connect to X server.
and, i don't remember how debian was as default, but i know that some distributions don't have X configured for root as default.

Ok i solved everything thanks to you.
The solution to the first problem was the dependences, thank you! i don't know why they did not install at first :S
The problem in the midi server was that it was started without the "-iA" flags. I remember that i removed them due to some old problems with wine, when i ran timidity with them and tried the new ports worked as a charm!
