First, thank you for an excellent music app...
Can someone help me make sense of the percussion section ???
So far, you select a 'new track'. Then click that track at the bottom of the screen where you can then select (tic off the box) percussion from the track properties screen.
You can then select a track name and the number of strings...
1. I'm not clear on how many 'strings' to select ? Or does it not matter ?
2. Using the Matrix Editor can also be somewhat confusing.
I wrote a simple one measure drum track as a test like this (quarter notes)...
H H H H H = highhat B= bassdrum S=snare
B S B S
If I enter the HH first then the BD I get a 42 on the E string, and 35 on the B string but if I enter the BD first I get a 35 on the E string and then 42 on the B string.
Is there a way to keep things somewhat consistent so when you look back to edit you'll be able to understand what you're looking at ?
Maybe if you could hear the note(s) by clicking them on the tab or staff that would help ? A 58 on the G string seems meaningless.
Or even better instead of 44 or 32, a sn for snare or bd for bassdrum on the tab or staff line might be more intuitive ?
Advice, opinions, comments ???
Thanks, Steve

Hi,
It don't exists a "tablature" notation of percussion on "real life" (well there is something, but not implemented yet on tuxguitar, and it's not a string based notation).
What you see on tuxguitar, on the tablature, are the numbers of MIDI specification for percussion channels.
See here:
http://midistudio.com/Help/GMSpecs_PercMap.htm
>> 1 ... how many 'strings' to select ? Or does it not matter ?
it don't matters how many you set, but ofcourse, if you'll play 6 notes at same beat, you'll not able to do that if you have 4 strings.
>> 2 ... If I enter the HH first then the BD I get a 42 on the E string...
E or B Strings doesn't exists at all.. they exists only if "tuning" have that notes.
if you tune your string 1 in "D", so it will be a "D String" instead of "E". ( you can see a lot of examples like this on classic music )
On tuxguitar, when you create a percussion track,
all strings are tuned to the most lower "C" on MIDI Specification ( the number 0 )
This means, that all strings have same tuning:
String 1 = C instead of E
String 2 = C instead of B
So cleaning, all strings are the same for percussion tracks.
you can put "48" on first or last string, but it allways will be "Acoustic Snare"
And why the matrix editor do that ?
It's just because it try to find the "first" not used string to add the note.
if you add a note, it'll try add it on string 1.
if it's in use, so will try on next..
and if all are used, it will not able to create the note.
However as i told before, tablatures as string lines are not for percussion, so you don't must see it as strings.
just see the numbers that are on them.
