* what of 3 windows packages did you downloaded ?

If it's like XP, on:
C:/Documents And Setting/[your_user]/
you must have a folder called ".tuxguitar-[version]"
Try remove that folder (with tuxguitar closed) and start tuxguitar again. Does it solve the problem ?

HELP! The fretboard disappeared
