I have just shifted my OS from Windows to Ubuntu Hardy last week. I cannot install anything because I do not have an Internet connection at home.
I have to freshly install TuxGuitar on Ubuntu Hardy since I am not anymore using Windows (where I actually have a previous tuxguitar installation).
I tried to download the deb packages here in the office, including the dependencies: sun-java5-jre, libswt3.2-gtk-jni, libswt3.2-gtk-java. But when I reached home, there are still a lot of dependencies that need to be downloaded before I can install any of the dependencies (but I guess there is one among the three which can be successfully installed). How can I install tuxGuitar on Ubuntu hardy easily with no internet connection required? Thanks a lot!

The ubuntu package was builded thinking on ubuntu repositories, so there are not dependency includeds.
all other GNU/Linux packages include all dependencies (with java exeption)
Try download the "Excelsior Jet" package for linux.
Jet is a java machine (so you will not need install java as dependency) and as other dependencies are included, it should work without problems.

Under ubuntu 8.04 I installed tuxguitar and it wouldnt start up. It seems that it needs a java engine, I downloaded & installed Sun's java from Add/Remove Applications and it works great.
(I get an error when I try to open a specific file but I guess that's a problem with the particular file as all others seem ok.)
Thank you for this great tool

Hi,
> I get an error when I try to open a specific file...
Ubuntu cames with an older version of tuxguitar..
if you have it from repositories (0.9.1), you'll get some bugs (already fixed) with GP files.

This is a binary file, right? But when I double-clicked it, the installer didn't run. Do I need to code something on the terminal?
Thanks

Hi,
It's a self extractor binary file..
when you exec it, it should uncompress the content on a new folder.
Maybe you can't exec it because it don't have execution access..
So do:
chmod 775 tuxguitar-1.0-rc4-linux-x86-jet.bin
./tuxguitar-1.0-rc4-linux-x86-jet.bin
A new folder called "tuxguitar-1.0-rc4-jet" is what it made.
go to that folder, and make 2 click to tuxguitar to run the application.
