I could really use some help with a tab in the "Thumbpicking" or "Merle Travis" style of playing. The piece of music is called "I'll See You In My Dreams" and is a popular piece to perform in this style.
There are four files that help illustrate my question. I've uploaded the four files to FilesAnywhere.com and you can see them or download them here ==> http://tinyurl.com/6dqyuc
I started with a GuitarPro tab that I did not create. Then, before doing anything else, I saved it as a TuxGuitar native file. Both files are available. The gp file has two tracks called "1st Gtr" and "add thumb" respectively. I think the person making the original transcription did this to enhance the MIDI interpretation of the piece. In reality, the alternating thumb bass part plays both track at the same time. That is to say that the thumb plays two strings together as one and then alternates to a different pair of bass strings for the next beat. The problem is that the transcriber placed these in different tracks.
I've included the LilyPond output (.ly) file and a PDF file made by running LilyPond so you can see how TuxGuitar has handled these tracks. It separates them into different sections of the score.
That's a lot of background.
My questions are these:
1. Is there any easy way to combine the tracks into a single track so they will be displayed and printed on the same staff?
2. If I were starting over on this project, how would I best go about coding the file so that all the notes are displayed on the same staff?
3. Is there a technique for encoding the bass line (thumb part) and melody line (finger part) separately so the stems go in opposite directions?
Thanks for any help from anyone.
And thanks to the TuxGuitar developers.
