Hello. I have had this problem with ubuntu 9.10 and probably before.
I have done a clean install so no old configs should interfere.
When playing a song it will play prefectly, but if I stop and leave it for a while the sound is delayed by a long time. Sometimes when I stop it playing and start it works perfectly.
Using timidity(freepats) the delay can be a few minutes. With Gervill it will be about 10 seconds.
What could be causing this?
To fix the problem I have to close down tuxguitar and load it back up.

Try install QSynth and use it with "pulseaudio" as audio driver.
since pulseaudio is the default ubuntu audio server and timidity don't have support for it.

Sorry for the late delay. I've been busy.
QSynth did work but it was really distorted. It sounds like a broken speaker on a dying toy.
I turned off reverb and chorus, but it had no effect.
When playing the highlighting of the note is more accurate than timidity.

I've been using fluidsynth for most of today and the distortion is not too bad at the moment. It was really bad yesterday though.
The secret is to play it at a low volume(speakers dial, not software). It's still a bit annoying, but it works a lot better than timidity.
The sound hasn't cut off/delayed yet with fluidsynth.
