Im at the end of the measure in my composition and i want it too be a quarter note but it only lets it be a eighth note, how do I get it too be a quarter note?

if it don't lets you add a quarter note,
it means that measure just finished..

so you maybe need change the "time signature"
i mean..
if you have a 4/4 time signature, it means that you can add 4 quarter beats.. ( so 4.5 is invalid.. )

so add something like 4.5 quarter beats you need a time signature such as 9/8

but it's not very an usual time signature..
maybe what you are looking for, is a "tied" note..
it means that you can finish with a "eight note", and start a new measure, with another "egith note" tied.
it will sound as 1 quarter note..
