Rests at end of measure

I edited part of a measure, then after deleting a note the sixteenth rest appeared at the end of the measure instead of merging the measure ahead of it. Now it won't let me delete that rest. what's up?

I have the same problem. How do I get rid of rests at the end of a bar which were added automatically by TG.
