Is there any way I can plug in my real guitar, and my real bass to make more realistic sounding tracks?

No with tuxguitar. its a MIDI application

If you are looking for record your guitar.
you should take a look to any multitrack audio record software.
such as Ardour, Rosegarden ( for GNU/Linux ) or Cubase (for windows).
with that softwares you can also import MIDI tracks.

if i understand right you want to play your tuxguitar songs in a more realistc way. tuxguitar generally use your OS to play the midi and your OS use the soundbank provided with the soundcard, wich generally consist of computer-sintetized sound. you'd like to download a real guitarbassdrum set sintetized sounds, like a sf2 bank (i suggest fluid r3 or titanic). timidity++ is a midi-pcm converter capable of handle these and has also a midi input interface. you can use midi-yoke (if you are under window) to redirect tuxguitar midi out to timidity++ midi input. i personally use tuxguitar like that

Do you think you could go into more detail on how you set up timidity++?

you'll need twsynth

http://timidity.s11.xrea.com/index.en.html

it's a program with a midi input that use timidy to convert that midi events to pcm data

you'll also need s soundfont (a large one if you want high-quality. i suggest fluid r3)

http://www.sf2midi.com/
http://www.hammersound.net/

is you are under win32 you'll need midiyoke to create the vitual midi ports

http://www.midiox.com/

simply follow the tutorials on how set up timidity with your soundfonts

Thank you for the help. I ended up using the Titanic soundfont and it sounds much better. Only problem is that it seems to lag from time to time.
