I'm a banjo player and the only app I have found that supports banjo at all is Tabledit. However tabledit is A) not open source, and B) not open source, there's only one reason needed. I was wondering if there was any plan to implement some 5-string banjo loving, I am completely willing to help with whatever information you need regarding the banjo.
The main kicker is that the fifth string on a banjo starts at the fifth fret. Like so.

Well, that fretboard diagram didn't come out right. Lets try html tags, If this one doesn't work I give up.

Hi...
go to "track -> properties" menu option...
then you can set the number of strings, tunning and instrument
of the selected track.

Tune the instrument 5 frets lower, and don't use 1-5 frets on the lowest string. I think this is a painless solution.
Anyway you can play with the tunnings, there's nothing else you need. Or is it?!?

Hi johnny, i talk with Bonuts by mail.. and i could understand the problem.
in banjo 5 string, begin from 5 fret.
but in tabs.. you should see:
frets: 0 | 6 | 7 | 8 | 9 | 10.....(all separated by 1 semitone)
the problem, is tuxguitar can't 1 semitone beetween 0 to 6

Well then, as long he doesn't use those tones for which he doesn't have frets, there's no problem....

yes, but the problem are not unused frets "1,2,3,4,5" ..
the problem is "0 fret".. what should be tune 1 semitone down than "6 fret".
he need listen the sound of "5 | 6" but writting "0 | 6" on the tab.

I would also like to see this functionality. All that really needs to happen is to have a "0" displayed when the fifth string is fretted on the fifth fret.
Behind the scenes, it is ok if the actual value is 5 in this case.
Are there any plans to implement this? By the way, thanks for a fantastic program!

Basically what this all means is this: We, friendly banjo players :) need a "Capo string X at fret N" feature.
Or let me rephrase that: 5 string banjo needs a independent 5th string capo + regular capo.
