I do not agree...
I have already used guitarpro, tux guitar is largely easier !!!!!!
And the problems i encountered are just caused by obsolete packages on ubuntu....
(it works perfectly on windows)
If you encounter problems editing .gp files you can convert them into .tg file format.

Nico, you are right, tuxguitar is not a solution to gp* file format, it was/is not planned to be a solution.
tuxguitar just support those file formats, but it have it's own structure and it's own file format.
if you want to edit gp4 files, so you should use guitar pro 4. if you want gp5, so use guitar pro 5.
if you want use tuxguitar to edit, so just save your files on ".tg" file format
it is normal that applications can't export all features to an external file format without lose data.
you can see an example of that with guitar pro itself.
try create a song with guitar pro "5", make a 2 voices measure.
export the file to "gp4", and then try load the gp4 file on guitar pro 5.
let me know.. do you see the 2 voices that you did ???
with your arguments you may think that it's a guitar pro bug ??
the answer is no... the reason is easy. GP4 don't have support for 2 voices, so you definitly can't save them.
ofcoruse this 2 voices, is just a quick example.. there are a lot of incompatibilities beetween applications,
did you ever think why each application have it's own file format?? it's exactly to be able to save all features, and restore then when you load the files.
>> the sound is very orrible
tuxguitar itself don't play sounds, so it don't sounds. it just connect to any MIDI Synthesizer and it is who play the sounds.
i know it's hard to understand for beginners on MIDI protocol. but if you make the try to understand it you'll see that you can to have an unlimited kind of sounds.
you can configure all and get the best sounds.
our problem is that we don't have money to buy those real sounds to distribute them as default.
