Just wanted to say that this app has saved me from using Windows or Guitar Pro under Wine.
Some more work and it will be really great, some better rendering of the tabs for example.
Keep up the good work!

this app looks realy nice i think i'll use it instead of guitar pro because the performance is much better!
feature request i have is
1st Midi Support (maybe tmidity?)
2nd it seems there isn't the posibility to do changes in tempo in a file (for exaple bar 1-20 is 120Bpm and 21-50 is 160bpm
3rd with my gtk2+ theme (xfce-dusk) it looks a bit strange maybe the colors could be changable ? (screenshot : http://img75.imageshack.us/img75/1170/tuxguitarht9.png )
another nice thing would be a newsletter or something (so that i notice new versions)
bye

Hi...
1_Timidity Support.. java sound api comes with a synthetizer.. and is no possible connect with other synths.. but you can install other java sound api implementation (like tritonus) to run with timidity...
2_About the tempo.. the tempo is setted from the selected measure, to the end.. is you select the 5 measure and change tempo.. the 1 to 4 don;t have changes.
3_ i see that before.. but i don't know if it is a bug of GTK or of SWT
Bye...

1st thank you for your very fast reply ^^
hmm i will try working on that java sound api thing ... so that i can use my sound card midi support ^^
you're right the tempo chaning with tux guitar works quite good but that semms to be a problem with the import of guitar pro files (in guitar pro changes in tuzx guitar not) the same for the chaning of instruments
if it helps you or give a hint ... during the playback i see the nots that heven't played in black but the nots that have play (after the were red) they dissappear

Hi....Well..
about the tempo.. if it not setted when you open the gp file.. it should be a bug.. this file is: gp3,gp4 or gp5 ???
about the instrument change.. we have no support for this at the moment..
about sound... i can help you but i need know what Operating system are you using.
so.. for the moment i can send you this possible errors:
1_ check in your java installation folder. if exists the file: "YOUR_JAVA_FOLDER/jre/lib/audio/soundbank.gm"
if you don't have this file.. you can download this from:
http://java.sun.com/products/java-media/sound/soundbanks.html
2_ (only if you are under Linux SO)
run tuxguitar on a system console..
if you see any java exception.. check on "Documentation" section.. Problems -> Java Sound Api. if you found the problem
3_ (only if you are under Linux SO)
if you don't find solution on point 2.. try to exec tuxguitar with alsa-oss
$aoss tuxguitar
well.. for the moment i can't say more... i wait your reply to see the real problem.
Bye

hi
i think we're talked at cross purpusises because my problem was that the sound sounds "strange" and not as good as if i use the card directly :D
the file i used was a gp4 file but i think in other gp files there would be the same problem ... if you need it i can upload the file to my webspace

Ok please.. upload the file.. and i will see the bug.
about sounds strange..
i have timidity installed, and its true.. they have different sounds.
this is because timidity and java sound api don't use the same soundbank..
i don't understand all you say because i speak spanish.. but i read
you say "not as good as if i use the card directly"
if you go to card directly.. you don't need timidity (timidity is a software synthetizer)
so..if i understand what are you saying.. you need a better soundbank for java..

http://home.arcor.de/joyfm/intro+songanfang.gp4 (the tempo should change from 98bpm to 150 in measure 16 (in Guitar Pro in the track named "Tommy" ) )
i don't use timidity(besides in GNU Solfege :D ) only the card snythesizer ^^ timidity was just a suggestion (because a lot of people have a problem using their sound card directly under linux)
and i've downloaded the "deluxe" soundbank but "real midi" (with the *SF2 from my soundcard driver) is better ;)
P.S. My english isn't perfect as well (i'm german) Hablo un poco espanol pero no bien que ingles ;)

soo i found the first little bugs ;)
it seems you forgot to change the color of the tempo font in the first measure (teh same thing with the time signature) (screeny : http://img181.imageshack.us/img181/6196/notexttm7.jpg )
in page view it doesn't scroll deep enough (screeny -> auto scrolled into the second line (during playback) : http://img172.imageshack.us/img172/7339/dontscrollxk5.jpg )
also the "tied" and "dead" note feature isn't available as a key binding ...
a friend of mine going to post some feature request tomorrow (like the changing of instruments, play technics, harmonics, wizards etc. :) )

Hi.. don't worry for english.. i don't speak too :p
for the moment the tuxguitar print is running with AWT and it needs some memory, to parse SWT images to AWT images.. its provisory.
SWT has print option, but its not implemented in all OS.
there is an implementation on devel versions.. so when SWT make the release, i change all print system. and add new options to set:
score enable
tablature enable
multitrack enable
Bye.

excellent app. Really fine.
However, could you please look at lowering the cpu usage of the fretboard and score windows during playback. I'm running on a 2.4 GHz machine and it's using some 70%...
so I'm not sure if I can get away with running it on my other box (850MHz duron)

Keep up the good work !

Another thank you, from France; it show a great potential and I hope you will continue to maintain it and make it better. A little problem: sound works through OSS emulation by ALSA or using AOSS (basically, intercepting OSS calls and redirecting them to ALSA), but even with the ALSA plugin it won't work (tested with all the devices found). Now the problem is maybe specific, but my ALSA config works properly other than that.
Anyway I can still make the sound work through the OSS emulation layer (/dev/dsp) or through OSS so it's not a big deal but making it work with ALSA natively would be great.
Thanks again for the wonderful app, I'm not coming from Guitar Pro because I haven't used Windows for a long long time and my interest in guitar software was limited at the time.

Hello,
About OSS-ALSA:
TuxGuitar play sounds under Java Sound Api.. i know there is a problem with some sound cards.. but i don't found why it happends..
some people say Java use OSS, and Sun say Alsa.... but the implementation of this api is not opensource.. so i can't see the source to know the true :p
So, i help a person to fix this problem, and we found this steps:
make sure "snd_seq" is loaded.. to list loaded modules you can exec:
$lsmod | grep snd_seq
this is the result of this line in my PC:
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
julian@linux:~$ lsmod | grep snd_seq
snd_seq_dummy 3844 0
snd_seq_oss 33536 0
snd_seq_midi 9376 0
snd_seq_midi_event 7552 2 snd_seq_oss,snd_seq_midi
snd_seq 51984 7 snd_seq_dummy,snd_seq_oss,snd_seq_midi,snd_seq_midi_event
snd_timer 25220 3 snd_rtctimer,snd_seq,snd_pcm
snd_rawmidi 25504 2 snd_seq_midi,snd_mpu401_uart
snd_seq_device 8716 5 snd_seq_dummy,snd_seq_oss,snd_seq_midi,snd_seq,snd_rawmidi
snd 55268 16 snd_seq_oss,snd_seq,snd_via82xx,snd_ac97_codec,snd_pcm_oss,snd_mixer_oss,snd_pcm,snd_timer,snd_mpu401_uart,snd_rawmidi,snd_seq_device
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
if the "snd_seq" isn't at results.. you need load:
$modprobe snd_seq
(or you can add the line "snd_seq" to your /etc/modules.. to load snd_seq when boot linux..)
then you can check if tuxguitar run..
$tuxguitar
or
$aoss tuxguitar
Well, the person who had this problem... couldn't run TuxGuitar and other apps like (rosegarden, kedit, noteedit.) with timidity...
but after load "snd_seq".. all apps works fine!!
tuxguitar-alsa:
this plugin.. implements a Java Native Interface, writen in C.. to use Alsa Sequencer... note you need have a midi card to get sounds... or you need load a software synthesizer (timidity, fluidsynth....)..
I hope you can understand.. my english is no good. sorry..

Congrats on v.1.0 and nice work. I was very happy to open up TEF formats as well as GTP, they looked correct and started playing immediately with decent guitar sound. Cool! There were a few weird errors, but then my TEF's have a lot of note effects and formatting tweaks, so I was happy to see them looking 98% correct.
I've been using Tabledit in Wine which works well. I need the best printed sheet music I can get and so far Tabledit has been the most flexible for that. So I guess that would be my wish list for next version, more print format controls.
Thanks,
Eric
